Dr Emma Patrick from Taranaki Base Hospital was nominated by Dr Claire Frost for her talk about Blood topics/Transfusion update.
Dr Patrick covers the current state of transfusion in New Zealand, up-to-date research on the use of tranexamic acid, and the challenges posed by novel anti-coagulants and how to manage them in the acute setting of haemorrhage. (It is an updated version of the talk given at AQUA 2014.)
Dr Frost described the talk as "a useful update on very relevant topics that are constantly evolving/changing and present to us frequently in our everyday practice."
Dr Patrick is presenting at Timaru and Tauranga (regional meeting) this year.
